01/20 - Dungeness Spit

The autumn tides make it hard to take long walks on Dungeness Spit, but in January they start to get better. We went out with the tide at five feet and falling. The beach was broad and sandy which made for easy going. There was even a rainbow to make things even nicer.

01/16 - Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

We live near the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, so when we were trapped in the house by the recent 18"+ snowfall, we put on our boots and coats and made our way through to take a look around. It's a pretty setting, and even nicer in the snow.

01/08 - Olympic Hot Springs Road Still Closed

We went out to take a look at the Elwha River. We walked up past the mule camp, now closed for the season. We walked all the way up to where the road is completely washed out. Yes, the road is still closed. Still, it was pretty in a northwestern wintry sort of way.

Olympic Hot Springs Road is still closed.

01/06 - Dungeness Dike and Points North

We saw a number of eagles along our walk on the Dungeness Dike. It's a good relaxing hike on a nice soft, flat surface. Then we crossed the Dungeness River heading west on Anderson Road and took a short walk north towards the Strait of San Juan de Fuca. It was a broad flat marshy field with a trail that seemed to lead all the way to the strait, but we didn't get that far. We'll have to come back and explore some more.

01/04 - Marymere Falls and the Barnes Creek Trail

Marymere Falls is always at full flow during the winter as is Barnes Creek. We made our way up to the falls, then, on our way back, took the side spur up the Barnes Creek Trail. We didn't get very far. The trail was completely flooded. This has been a wild year for the weather.
