We actually visited one of the wineries near the volcano. The wine was drinkable, but not particularly impressive. The problem, according to the proprietors, was acid rain, just like they have in the eastern parts of the mainland. Of course, on the mainland, the sulphur sources are power plants burning high sulphur coal. On Hawaii, the sulphur source is a volcano. Maybe they will be able to compensate, but it seems they are challenging Pele, and Bachus is not on his home turf here.
