Port Townsend is quaint and Victorian, but it does have its charms. For one thing, it is on the sea. It also has a number of used bookstores, good restaurants and a wonderful movie theatre, The Rose. It may be a bit too touristy for some, but we find Port Townsend a great place to kill a rainy day on the Peninsula.

Where to Eat

• Fins - pretty good waterfront dining
• Fountain Cafe - a wonderful throwback to the hippy era, with good, hearty food

What to Do

• The Rose Theatre - a great first, second and art run theatre; obviously run by cinephiles
